Frequently Asked Questions

How does the weight of the G5-01 compare with other Speedglas helmets?

The Speedglas G5-01 is approximately the same weight as the Speedglas 9100 FX Air.

The helmet weighs 665g without the headband and welding filter, while the welding filter weighs 206g. It has a narrow profile for an improved fit and is designed to withstand demanding working conditions.

An upgraded headband and optional extra-large rear head pad provide additional comfort during extended periods of use.

What are the main differences between the G5-01 and the 9100 FX Air?

The upgraded G5-01 features Variable Colour Technology, an additional shade 14 setting, a larger welding lens and a clear grinding visor that is 15% larger than the visor on the 9100 FX Air.

Its flip-up welding visor can be completely removed, reducing the helmet’s weight during extended grinding and preparation work.

An optional helmet-mounted task light is also available. Its adjustable brightness makes it easier to work in confined or poorly lit areas.

The welding filter also features Bluetooth connectivity and can be paired with the 3M Connected Equipment app on a compatible smartphone.

Can the G5-01 be purchased without respiratory protection?

No. The G5-01 is only available with either the Adflo powered air respirator or the Versaflo V-500E supplied-air regulator.

The similar Speedglas G5-02 welding helmet is available for users who do not require respiratory protection.

Which replacement lenses are compatible with the G5-01?

  • Inner cover lens: Part No. 528025
  • Outer cover lens: Part No. 526000
  • Grinding visor plate: Part No. 613000

Does the G5-01 have side windows?

No. Instead, the G5-01 provides a larger overall viewing area and a clear grinding visor that is 15% larger than the one fitted to the 9100 FX Air.

Can the brightness of the optional task light be adjusted?

Yes. Press the external button once to switch the task light on. Press and hold the button to cycle through the available brightness levels, releasing it when you reach your preferred setting.

Is the task light suitable for heavy-duty welding?

Yes. The task light is protected from sparks and spatter by a replaceable outer cover plate. This can be easily removed and replaced when it becomes worn.

How does the Bluetooth connectivity work?

Download the 3M Connected Equipment app to a compatible smartphone and pair it with the G5-01 welding filter via Bluetooth.

Once connected, the app allows you to:

  • Adjust the welding filter’s dark-state settings
  • Create and save up to 10 memory modes
  • Record helmet maintenance information
  • Review statistics showing time spent in light and dark states
  • Access product manuals

The saved memory modes make it easy to switch quickly between your preferred settings.

Can another welder access my lens settings through Bluetooth?

The welding filter can only be connected to one smartphone at a time.

How do I remove the welding visor?

For extended periods of non-welding work, unscrew the two side dials and remove the welding visor. Reattach the dials once the visor has been removed.

Removing the welding visor can reduce the helmet’s weight by up to 36%. Adjustment instructions are printed directly on the helmet, and the controls are designed to be operated while wearing welding gloves.
